After almost six months of radio silence, I finally decided to kick off the new year with a new blog and new blog name. Before diving into why I’m starting over and all of that good stuff, I thought I’d give a little life update about what’s been going on these last few months!

I graduated from University of Louisville in May, and I moved back home to Chicago (let’s be real…the suburbs of Chicago) shortly after. I started my first “big girl job” about 6 months ago working in social media, and I’ve been working ever since. Now that I’m officially considered an “adult” my life has pretty much consisted of working, trying to catch up with old friends when I can and exploring the city that I’ve called home for all these years.

Honestly y’all, this adulting thing is not what it’s cracked  up to be (I’ll be getting into that in another post). While being at this point in my life definitely has it’s perks, it also has it’s downsides. Friendships get put to the test, relationships get  more complicated and time seems to be a nonexistent thing.

2017 was definitely a year of change and revelation for me. Not only did my physical environment change, but a lot of my relationships changed as well- some for the good and some for the bad. All of these changes have brought me to where I’m at in this very moment, and for that, I am truly thankful.

I wasn’t sure if this would be permanent or temporary, but I knew that I needed to take a step back. I wasn’t passionate about what I was writing, I felt uninspired, I didn’t know what my voice was and I just wasn’t in the same place that I was when I first started.

City Meets Southern was such an accurate representation of where I was during my college years, but when I looked at where I was in my life, I realized that my blog wasn’t a reflection of me. With me having all of these feelings of uncertainty, I decided to stop blogging all together until I felt inspired again.

It turns out that taking a step back and focusing on my day job actually inspired me to get back into my side gig. I was sitting at work going through some of the content from our brand influencers, and I instantly felt a creative spark go off in my brain. Within a week’s time period, I made the decision to change the look and feel of my blog, as well as the name.

So…why did you choose The D-Code. Honestly, I really can’t answer that. The name just kind of rolled off my tongue, and it seemed like a good fit. Plus, let’s be real, there are only so many blog names you can come up with in the universe. I knew I wanted something that I could be happy with 20 years from now, and I wanted a shorter url, so this seemed like the right move.

I’ve been sitting on this project for almost 4 months, so I’m glad that I can finally share this with you all. I’m exited for you all to read this new content, I’m excited to showcase the work of some of the amazing creators and photographers that are located in the Chicagoland area and I’m excited to share this new journey in my life. Starting over can be a really scary thing, but one of my goals for 2018 is to set crazy goals and face my fears head on!

What are your goals for the new year? Let me know in the comments below!
